The little town of Ada, Michigan is home to one of the very well known
ghost stories around the Michigan area. Who knows for sure what's been twisted and
exaggerated of the true story, or if there was even a true story to begin with.
Nonetheless this little cemetery definitely holds it's unique appearance. Resting at the
side of a dirt road, up on a hill. The trees are allowed to grow into the cemetery, giving
it a secluded, quiet, and haunting appeal. Some of the gravestones are even into the woods
a few yards. A very peaceful place to wonder, I have yet to see any distraught, sad, or
murdered apparition in the form of a beautiful young girl, but if you like ghost stories,
and ones that are suppose to be true, than this little story and cemetery would surely
catch the attention of anyone with a mild curiosity. Some stories claim she holds the name
of Sara, however some say the name is unknown. I am a skeptic to say the least, so I can't
say it's real or that I even believe in ghosts. However, I do love stories of the sort,
and I know there are many things a person could not fathom. So I will leave it, as an
anything is possible. It would be neat to be proven wrong, so I am sure my travels will
take me here again, at least to enjoy the surroundings, and lack of public, in a little
cemetery, held tightly by the surrounding nature. The story below, was taken from a book
of haunted places in Michigan. From what I also understand, is that she was not a witch.
Although a few claimed she was pagan, I believe that could have been fabricated, and that
the title of "witch" simply was applied to her because of her ghost. How this
makes her a witch I have no idea, but it's how she is listed. All the areas listed, are
within the Michigan area, and around the same general vicinity.
Ada witch - Sometimes you can see a misty blue figure floating within a 3 mile radius of
the Findlay Cemetery on 2 Mile between Egypt Valley and Honey Creek. Also reported to be
seen around the Ada Cemetery, Seidman Park and wandering nearby roadsides. The story of
her origin is as follows:
A man suspected his wife of having an affair, so he followed her late one night when she
thought he was asleep. Sure enough, she went to a field near their property where she met
her lover. The husband was enraged and killed his wife, which resulted in a struggle with
the other man. Both men died from their injuries. It is said that late at night
(especially during the night of and the nights preceding a full moon) people driving by
the field can see her ghost, searching for her lover. Some people have reported stopping
to try to communicate with her, but she always disappears or runs into the woods where she
cannot be followed (due to the thick brambles that inhabit the area). She is said to dress
in a long white gown which authorities say dates her to the turn of the 20th century.
Usually she is seen alone, but sometimes witnesses report seeing a ghostly death scene
re-enacted... Others report seeing nothing at all but hearing the killer's shouts of rage
followed by the victims' screams of agony... Although it is said she haunts the field on
Honeycreek Road where she died, other witnesses have reported her in nearby Seidman Park,
and in nearby Findlay Cemetery, where she is supposedly buried. This story was actually
featured in the book "Ghosts of Grand Rapids." |
