My Occupation and Studies

"We are shut up in schools and college recitation rooms for ten or fifteen years
and come out at last with a bellyful of words and do not know a thing"
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~

I currently work at a health food store, and love to try to help people on their quests to become healthier and better to the earth. I am not licensed and do not have a degree in any kind of medicine. I barely made it through high school and self taught myself much of what I know, along with reading and gathering information from other people over the years. Some of what I know has been backed up by scientific research, not done by some guy out of his basement, but by major college research centers from all over the world. I do find however that since research can differ from one mans test to another, that some of us need to find our own balance in the natural medicine world. Some of the same things work great for multiple people, and some do not. Not everyone is made the same.

The science behind natural medicine

"The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease."
~ Voltaire ~

Although it can give us an idea on what is to come, we function in different ways than the mice, or rats science uses to test things on, whether it be natural medicine, or conventional. Sometimes in the natural medicine world, we have to find what works best for us, and not always will it work the same for the next person. Some people may claim much of the outcome of natural medicine is more psychological than an actual physical or chemical change in the body. In all honesty, wouldn't you rather feel better from a positive thought, than a prescription drug. However, this does not take away the fact, that there have been thousands of legitimate scientific studies done, that show actual changes in the body by way of using natural medicines or eating a certain way. And many of the people that come into my field everyday, have had positive reactions that were obvious, and beyond what someone could ever label as a psychological effect. It is too bad that a lot of the research done on herbs or natural health, is simply not in the media much. There are sources out there, within books and so on, but much of the research I have come across was actually during seminars and meetings I have attended at my job. If you look hard enough, you can find legit, independent and university studies done on all sorts of various forms of natural medicine. It is not hidden, it just is not wanted by big corporations and current shit media to show interest in pressing this issue to any degree. The sugared iced teas, drinks, or few items you do see advertised with "herbal infusions" are usually trash. There are ways of extracting constituents of an herb, that can put them in a highly potent form, in which a person can gain a therapeutic benefit. Then there are some that just like the straight dried herbs, which work for them just fine.

Healthy Eating and Lazy People

"A man too busy to take care of his health is like a mechanic too busy to take care of his tools."
~ Spanish Proverb ~

Not only do I speak of herbs when talking of natural health or medicine, but things many people don't think of, whether it be proper beneficial fats, enzymes, beneficial bacteria, vitamins, minerals, and more which are basic elements the body "must" have to function correctly. There are also various ways of getting these different kinds of compounds, some a bit more naturally than others. In most cases herbs are more of a treatment, they usually are not a necessity for the body, in order for it to function correctly, if your comparing it to what I listed in the beginning of this paragraph, or to nutrients you would naturally get from food. Never think there is a one pill answer in the natural medicine world. If one thing does not work, do not give up. A person that does this is either uneducated in the field, or is simply to lazy to take the time to look further into this lifestyle.

Most of these natural treatments will work much better if a person makes the effort to actually improve their overall diet. Some people hate supplements of any kind, natural or unnatural, and follow more of a belief in nutrition itself. Using everyday food consumption in a healthy way to keep ailments from setting in, in the first place, or perhaps using whole food nutrition to combat a problem already occurring. This would be ideal, however people are lazy, and most will not go through this dramatic change in what they eat. Many people use the excuse of not having the time, and so on. What time? How is eating healthy taking up so much time? If you ate more raw plant life which is the way it should be, you can escape a lot of the cooking in the first place. Or even if your on the run there are plenty of healthy options people can pick to take along with them. There is no excuse other than people are "LAZY," or they don't want to give up that fast greasy food taste they have grown so accustom to. One of the worst things a person can say to me when asking for my help in this field is "I don't have the time." This to me is a person pretending to want change in their life, a person that wants a one pill cure to a healthy life.

The Housefire Effect

"If we all did the things we are really capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves"
~ Thomas Edison ~

I can't force people to change, they must want it for themselves, and only then do I have a passion to help a humanity that I mostly couldn't care less about. I am still willing to help even the people that don't want to make much change to their daily diet. However I can't say it will do them a whole lot. Depending on a persons diet, using a supplement in pill form can be like trying to put a house fire out with a squirt gun. If you eat horrible, and take a multivitamin, or some herbal supplement, chances are the bad will outweigh the good. It's your choice not mine.

Prescriptions and Politics

"I am dying with the help of too many physicians."
~ Alexander the Great ~

A lot of this natural medicine comes under fire, but remember this. Prescription drugs rank among the highest killers in the United States. More people have died from taking a synthetic form of over the counter aspirin, than any recorded amount of deaths coming by way of common and even uncommon herbs in which you may buy inside a health food store combined. The US government banned ephedra. Why? Because it worked. But they used a few bad cases to get it off our shelves. Cases where people abused it. Let me ask you this. If Ephedra (Ma Huang) was so dangerous. Why on earth would the synthetic form of Ephedra (Pseudoephedrine) be in a simple cold remedy you can buy off the shelf of a gas station? The synthetic form is so much more deadly when abused, it's hard to comprehend the logic used here, and leads me to the easy answer that the government, drug corporations, and others have a fear for things that work, in which we could grow in our back yard. It is a money issue, NOT because they care for our well being.

I myself am still up in the air about conventional medicine in some ways. Sometimes I think if we put the effort into more natural medicine, that we place into conventional ways, we could be much further. Sure some prescriptions origins were based on a plant, but once synthesized and altered are no longer a plant material, it is than a chemical creation. There is no life, no plant matter in the actual chemical compound used in most if not all of your prescription drugs. Prescription drugs are chemically made. Science cannot recreate the delicate balance in which nature presents in it's plants. A plant does not consist of one chemical compound. They consist of hundreds, thousands, or even greater. All in which work with each other to be utilized in complex ways when taken internally. These elements work together in a beneficial way. We cannot create this in a lab chemically.

Conventional Medicine Abuse

"Until man duplicates a blade of grass, nature can laugh at his so-called scientific knowledge."
~ Thomas Edison ~

I have run into it about one time in my life that I have needed a prescription drug since I changed my lifestyle, but so seldom do I ever. This one time was also brought on by my own stupidity. I have taken, over the counter headache stuff maybe a few times, brought on by a couple bad party nights. This was mostly all self induced. Since I changed my diet and supplemented where needed I no longer have a chronic headache condition, among a few other things. The more I learn the less I ever come around it. I do know that not everyone can just make a dietary change and become healed. Based on personal family experiances I have come to the conclusion that there are people out there that may need modern medicine to function correctly. I also know that a bad day at work doesn't call for someone to need a pill that has the ability to make them a completely different person.  What I am trying to make so many understand, is the abuse that is around when it comes to these drugs. A pill for feelings of everyday life, or ailments that could easily be altered by trying natural medicine or supplementation first, or simply eating in a way to achieve the things needed to support the bodies functions. This doesn't mean you try one thing, it doesn't work, and then you run off to your nearest pharmacy. It may take a little effort, and if you care about the world around you, and yourself, then it's an effort worth making. What would happen to the government, large drug corporations, or even regular doctors and hospitals if people didn't have a need for using prescriptions a fraction as much as they do now? It would be a disaster, and that is why these people and places cannot allow it to happen. They treat people, and do not cure them unless they are removing, replacing, or cutting some organ in the body, and even then, place them on another drug.

Prevention

"Wisdom is to the mind what health is to the body."
~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld ~

Much of the key here is prevention, whether it be from a sour stomach to cancer. I am also not saying that nutrition and natural medicine will make people invincible. The key is to cut the duration of an ailment, or actually drop the risk of someone acquiring a number of various ailments in the first place. If you tell me eating fast food and taking prescription drugs is going to do this more than eating natural and living a healthy lifestyle on a regular basis than your wrong.

Vaccines and Immune Systems

"A person should be dependant on nature for healing and prevention.
Not on people that think they are beyond what nature offers."
~ Me ~

We may have vaccines for ailments that use to kill people in the past, but now we have a whole new set of ailments killing people everyday. Childhood onset diabetes wasn't heard of until the 1980s and that can be linked directly to how humans eat today. Now we have things like HIV and West Nile Virus. We have mad cow disease because someone thought it would be cool to feed our livestock their own shit and organs since there's no room to shovel it somewhere else. The list can go on and on. There is now literature out there expressing the danger surfacing from so much vaccination to children, and it possibly being linked to autism, and certain types of brain development or learning disorders. Basically the route I am speaking of on this page is for a person to boost there own bodies immune systems or energy, to live healthy, and in a way that the body can be naturally resistant to all sorts of infections, old and new. Also such a healthy lifestyle can directly impact the earth, if a person decided to take it upon themselves to only purchase organically grown vegetation and  foods.

What If I Die Tomorrow?

"It's not how long you live, it's how you leave the earth."
~Me~

If I died tomorrow, at least in my life I accomplished losing 30 pounds or so of fat, and no longer have a chronic headache condition. Some skin problems even fixed themselves. It doesn't mean I never get sick, or I don't run into a problem here and there. But, where would I be now if I continued to eat trash and not care for myself. Most likely I would be over 230 pounds, would be suffering from headaches, and would have acquired most ailments I have had in a healthy state, at much more of a longer and more unbearable duration or intensity, and probably more often. It is hard to be healthy, even when you make an honest try. With all the pollution in the world today, we can only do our best to avoid the sickness that is mostly created by us, or even the deaths caused by our conventional drugs. I do not believe it is perscription drugs that is responsible for increasing our longevity as far as most people living into their 80s. Longevity has been increasing before man made medicinal drugs were even around. I think there are various things that could contribute to this. I also believe one major factor is nutrition. We know now more than ever what is needed to sustain human life. Scurvy killed off a lot of people when all they needed was vitamin C. This is just one example. The point is, if we had the nutritional knowledge so many years ago, that we have now, longevity would surely have been better than it was. Some people actually like to take stories of a health finatic dying, as a reason to bash the idea that it's worth trying out. Even if I died tomorrow, I would highly doubt that living a daily life at McDonalds would have made me live another day.

Freedom Of Nature

"Keeping your body healthy is an expression of gratitude to the whole cosmos
- the trees, the clouds, everything."
~ Thich Nhat Hanh ~

The reason we need to support natural medicine and understand it, is to back it up and ensure that the government does not take more action to destroy this. When something works in the natural field, giant corporations and government feel threatened. Why on earth would these people ever support a cure you could simply grow in someone's back yard?

Conventional Doctors, Drug Companies, Government, and Money

"Government, doctors, and drug companies know what they do. They are specialists in greed, keeping people sick, and murder."
~ Me ~

We also need to understand, that the majority of your regular doctors out there know very little about the field of natural medicine. Some do, but very few. For them to press this issue in a positive manner would almost be a contradiction to their profession. Insurance does not support natural medicine, it supports conventional prescription drugs. The conventional "health" system or drug companies, insurance, and doctors, are all part of the current government. What good will this do for a Doctor to tell you to get the cure at a health food store? It will do no good, for his profession, the conventional industry, or the government, so he probably won't tell you to go pick up a bottle of probiotics or a simple vitamin someone might be lacking. On some occasions there are a few doctors out there that I have heard can do this, but it's unlikely. Too bad you have to pay for natural medicine not covered by insurance, but this is currently what we have to face, until, if ever, we live in a world in which natural medicine and nutrition is recognized, used and admired by the majority.

Need Help?

"People who ask our advice almost never take it. Yet we should never refuse to give it,
upon request, for it often helps us to see our own way more clearly."
~ Brendan Francis ~

In my time I have had many people come to me for help. Some people state how they have tried this or tried that and things simply didn't work. Most of these times people have not even come close to the extremes in which I speak of. Extreme changes in a lifestyle most people would never attempt. Some people tell me they have done everything, when really they have not done much of anything. Some will even add in, that they have done things, they actually haven't. Another way I have seen or heard it, is that they talk of how they have tried, yet in reality it was a half ass attempt. With all this said, it is lying to yourself and the person helping you. However, this denial or untrue information will only hurt yourself, not so much the person trying to help you. Some people just may need to try one or a few things to alter their state of health, and others may have to do much more than that.

The reason I put this out there, is so you know when approaching me, that it is up to you, to decide how far you will go to really try to make a difference. I am here to help when I can, so if anyone out there has questions regarding an ailment, or nutrition in general, feel free to e-mail me and I will do my best to help you with your problems or questions. Please put Natural Health in the subject line so I do not mistake it for spam. I am busy a lot, so please do not be upset if my response is not prompt. It will also depend on how many people contact me whether I can help or not. I am only one person, so I can only promise my best in responding. You can e-mail me at  XSscotsmanNX@aol.com
